We are definitely going to use Alexander as the middle name, but we have been trying to decide whether we should use Alexander (the American spelling) or Aleksandr (the Russian spelling). What are your thoughts?

If it were me I'd use the Russian spelling to have Russian in his name.

I like the idea of the Russian spelling...keeps it unique and a recognition of where he came from -plus it is the MIDDLE name so he won't have to worry about people misprounnoncing it.

If you were using it as a 1st name, I'd say give him the American version, but since it's his middle name, I would give him a Russian spelling as part of his heritage. The "different-by-our-American-standards" spelling won't be an issue when it's time for school and such, KWIM? Just my 2 cents! :o)

I using the Russian spelling is a fantastic idea. That way, he will have a some of his heritage tied to his name. I'm so excited for you guys. I can't wait to meet him.

I agree with the others, using the Russian spelling will help him stay connected to his heritage & it is so unique, which I love.
